The tilting bodywork (seen in
before-resto photos) was just a showcase at Techno Classica in Essen [a
few years ago], when the restorer Rene Grosse, an expert in aluminium bodywork (BMW 328MM
coupe and spider from 1940, Le Mans car 1939), wanted to show the car, before restoration.
This car (*10259*, built in 1956) was first registered in Hamburg in
1957. The colour combination is black with grey/red interior, and in 1974 it was stored away. I found it after almost 40 years in a garage near Hamburg, completely untouched, and started a restoration where we preserved all the original parts, all the little details.
Although the body and chassis were very good, Rene Grosse had some work due to small
electrolysis/corrosion between aluminum body and the steel chassis, and did a great job on cleaning, preserving and put all the details and small parts back to work.
Engine and techniks were done by Hossein Niemann, Sportwagen Service in Hamburg, who did an excellent job,
only 500 km of test driving before starting the MM 2017, and
successfully finished!
